Can’t quite stretch to the £14,000 or so charged for the Yamaha MT-10? We’ve good news, as the 164bhp hyper naked bike is now available in a form costing around 70 times less. The only thing is, it’s a bit too small to ride.
This is a 1/5-scale Lego Technic recreation, and like a lot of kits made under that banner, it’s full of geeky little details. For instance, there’s a functioning three-speed gearbox, which drives the rear wheel via a chain.
The inline-four engine meanwhile has apparently been “faithfully reproduced in detail,” cross-plane crankshaft and all, presumably. The MT-10 also features working suspension front and rear, functioning steering, and a side stand. The kit is made up of 1,478 pieces, and once complete, measures 44cm in length, 15cm in width and 25cm in height.
It’s also possible to “see the model come to life” using Lego’s augmented reality app, and the set includes a display stand - handy if you don’t want to see the thing you spent hours building clatter onto the floor into hundreds of pieces.
Sales commence on 1 August, and it’ll cost you £199.99 if paying the recommended retail price. The kit is listed as being for ages 18 and up, so if anyone chastises you for buying a toy, you can assure them it absolutely is not. We can’t guarantee they’ll be convinced by this argument, though.
Lego Technic is no stranger to making bike kits. Previous machines to have been immortalised in the medium include the Ducati Panigale V4 and the BMW M1000 RR, and this MT-10 is unlikely to be the last. What motorcycle do you want to see in Lego Technic form?
